Digital Cable and the Thoughts it Provokes

I am currently at my parents' house watching Fuse, a Canadian (I believe) music channel on digital cable. They are usually the best pick of the litter as far as music television goes; at least they actually still play music (however, that's a whole different rant for another day, believe me, I'll get to it one day). This weekend they are doing a "Warped Weekend", which involves playing music related to the Warped Tour. I've been watching it for about half an hour listening to several bands (with whom I have not been formerly familiar) and it struck me how they all sound, to me, exactly alike. It's amazing. The singers all have the same voice, the bassists all have the same overdone riff, and all the guitar parts sound the same. Now, I don't even like bands whose own songs all sound the same, (I'm sure there will be a Coldplay rant for your reading enjoyment sometime in the future), nevermind whole categories of music that sound the same. It struck me after watching a music video from some band with "blood" or "bleed" or something like that in its name and then seeing a commercial for a new single from an album called "Cold" from another band. If I hadn't been watching the little blurbs that tell who, what, etc... I wouldn't have been able to tell it was a different band.
Now, admittedly I'm being really snotty about these bands and the people who choose to listen to them. I realised this and wondered, do people think this about my music? Do they not hear what I hear? Does it all sound the same to them? I hear the differences between people's voices, differences in guitar style, drummers and lyrics, but maybe other people don't if they're not inclined to like my kind of music. If this is the case, do I get the right to be such a snot?
